Not sure about girlfriends, but it definitely used to be the case with a wife. The doctrine was called "conjugal rights." Basically, the idea was that by marrying a woman, a man gained the right to have sex with her anytime he wanted to.

That's silly. Everyone knows it's the woman that has the right to sex anytime she wants, never mind if her husband has been up for two days straight and works a strenuous job, if she doesn't get it when she wants it, then there's huge issues!

If you're referring to the divorce, we filed by deposition. Which I should have held off on, because in retrospect, I didn't get my fair half of the stuff in the house. I did at least get half the money from selling the house though. Which I promptly spent on Gencon, then visiting my Grandparents in Iowa, then paying for a $700 surgery for my cat.
Marriage is a crock of shit and I'll never ever do it ever again, but my kitty gets the best I can afford.

Nah, I was referring to the guy being labeled as a 'sex offender'...
Yea, divorces suck. My mom got us (the kids), and the house (something like 22 years left on the mortgage). My dad got the money ($500?) and the car, which broke the following month. The divorce went well, emotionally, but my dad got completely screwed.

How so, "the most severe"?Absentminded_Wizard wrote:Or even in states that allow a judge to draw such a distinction (like Ohio), judges often put the most severe tag on the 19-year-old who had sex with a 17-year-old anyway.

I'm trying to not spill too much private information, but I'm going say that made me very angry.

Really?
Similar advice to me at age 18 left me fearful and a little confused, but not angry.
I didn't take the advice, though. And I was single within a week.
Girls like sex too, you know. Be thankful. Take advantage.

Personal experience has taught me that they don't like sex when I'm the other person.sigma999 wrote: Girls like sex too, you know.
Furthermore, I don't see the difference between insisting it's a man's job to have sex whenever a woman wants to, and a man demanding that a woman spread whenever he feels like it. In both instances, it marginalizes the other person.

In Ohio, there are three different tags a judge can put on a "sex offender," involving escalating reporting requirements and other inconveniences. The lowest level, "sexually oriented offender" requires the person to register with law enforcement wherever they live or move to for the rest of their lives. I forget what the second label is, but the worst one, "sexual predator," has all kinds of odious provisions: notification of law enforcement and local schools, law enforcement sending notification cards to your immediate neighbors, forbidden to live within 1000 ft. of any school.Bigode wrote:How so, "the most severe"?Absentminded_Wizard wrote:Or even in states that allow a judge to draw such a distinction (like Ohio), judges often put the most severe tag on the 19-year-old who had sex with a 17-year-old anyway.
Now, that sexual predator tag is obviously intended for the hardcore pedophiles who scope out the playgrounds for 10-year-old partners, but it gets applied by some judges to people who don't meet that definition. For example, there was a case of a guy who had sex with an underage girlfriend when he was barely legal and had this tag put on him. His story came to the attention of the local media when he and the local police and school district were fighting about whether his house was just over 1000 ft. from the nearest school or just under that distance.

Why does this suddenly feel like a cult movement?
I had a signature here once but I've since lost it.

Well, it is linked to the forces of Anonymous, and whether they're busting paedophiles, protesting against the Cult of Scientology or blocking access to the pool, they could be argued to be a cult of sorts. Just, with less harm (other than self-harm caused by emo LiveJournal users and DeviantArt users who they troll).
